Deoksugung Palace

Deoksugung (Korea Palace)

Recently, I visited Deoksugung Palace after hearing that the Dondeokjeong Hall of Deoksugung Palace was newly opened.

I was excited to hear that Dondeokjeon, which was used as a diplomatic center during the Korean Empire, has been restored after 100 years.

I visited the Dondeokjeon and the most famous stone pavilion of Deoksugung Palace.

If you are a foreigner who is interested in Korean palaces and history, the photos and descriptions in this post will help you better understand them.

How do I get to the Deoksugung?

Deoksugung Palace is located in front of exit 1 of City Hall Station on subway lines 1 and 2.

When you come out of Exit 1, there is a ticket booth right in front of you. After purchasing a ticket, scan the barcode and enter.

(I will write information about the price in the last information section)

When you enter the museum, you'll see brochures in different languages.

There is an information center at the back, so if you need any information you can ask there.

Dondeokjeon, a diplomatic facility reopens after 100 years

Dondeokjeon is a Western-style building in Deoksugung Palace where Gojong received foreign envoys.

"Dongdeok" comes from the saying, "Let the virtuous lead the virtuous and believe in the right.

The interior of the Dondeokjeon is very luxurious and modern in style.

A lot of people have visited the building to see how it has been restored after 100 years.

On the first floor of Dondeokjeon, media art is on display.

The media artwork covers the entire wall. It gives you a vivid view of the old Deoksugung Palace and Dondeokjeon.

I was very surprised to see the beautiful building on the second floor after seeing the media art on the first floor.

I went to the patio and there was a very nice mint colored area and many people were taking pictures.

Because we had good daylight, the photos came out great.

Daytime is the best time to go to Dondeokjeon and take pictures!

You'll find a library-like room once inside.

People can rest here and use the touchpad to learn about people, events, etc. related to Dondeokjeon.

English translations are also available.

Deoksugung Palace Stone Pavilion is a Western-style palace built to symbolize the modernization of the Korean empire and to demonstrate its power as an empire.

The construction of a stone building was very shocking to people at that time.

And the building symbolized the Korean empire's entry into the modern world.

There is a beautiful fountain and garden in front of the Stone Hall.

It was beautiful in the light of the sun.

There was also an Angbu Ilgu, a sundial from the Joseon Dynasty, which we had a chance to have a look at.

So I started photographing and photographing.

Be sure to take a picture of this place if you happen to pass by.

It looks really nice, especially when there's sunlight.

Nearby buildings

Many artists have exhibitions next to the stone pavilion.

I couldn't make it because I was busy, but next time I'll definitely see the show.

I went to see Deokhongjeon as well.

The interior is very luxurious and beautifully done, so if you are going to the Deoksugung Palace, be sure to check it out!
